Building on the success and popularity of the Dash 8-100/200/300 aircraft, the Dash 8-400 entered into service with significant enhancements including new engines, a modernized cockpit, and improved aerodynamics.
Seating up to 90 passengers, the Dash 8-400 is the highest capacity turboprop on the market today and has the lowest unit cost. In addition to passenger configurations, the Dash 8-400 is highly versatile with the ability to serve as a freighter, firefighting aircraft, missionized aircraft, and more.
With superior performance characteristics, the Dash 8-400 can operate in challenging conditions including on unpaved runways, in hot and high environments, and in remote communities where airport infrastructure may be lacking. It also offers 40% more range and 30% faster cruise speeds compared to conventional turboprops, making it the most productive turboprop on the market. Since its launch, more than 620 Dash 8-400 aircraft have joined the fleets of over 70 owners and operators worldwide.

The Dash 8-400, known for its efficiency and performance among turboprop aircraft, can reach a maximum cruise speed of approximately 360 knots (414 mph or 667 km/h). This speed makes it one of the fastest turboprop airplanes available, significantly enhancing its appeal for regional airlines by offering shorter travel times comparable to those of jet aircraft for certain distances. The Dash 8-400’s advanced aerodynamics and powerful engines are key factors contributing to its impressive speed capabilities, ensuring it remains a preferred choice for operators prioritising efficiency and performance.
The Dash 8-400 has a maximum range of about 1,100 nautical miles (2,038 kilometers or 1,267 miles) under typical passenger load conditions. This range enables the aircraft to conduct regional flights efficiently without the need for frequent refueling stops, making it an ideal choice for connecting a wide array of destinations, including remote and hard-to-reach locations. The aircraft’s range, combined with its speed and capacity, positions the Dash 8-400 as a highly versatile and economical option for airlines operating both short-haul and medium-haul routes.
